Staff Spotlight On...Sarah
Meet Sarah Ritchie!

Sarah Ritchie is one of our Project Managers, based in the Milton Keynes office in the UK and has been with us for over two years. Originally joining us in June 2018 as a Project Manager Associate, she was promoted to Project Manager and now leads several of our ongoing trials.

1. Before working at MRN, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I’m not sure how interesting/unusual this is but I used to volunteer in clinical trials for a drug development company, supporting medical advancements and making them simpler for sufferers to take. I then switched to the other side and went on to work as a Clinical Research Scientist for the same company; this role consisted of monitoring healthy volunteers and patient groups who were staying within the clinical research unit. This involved long hours and shift work, but it was certainly very interesting, and I learnt a lot about the recruitment and ongoing phases of clinical trials.

2. What three words best describe MRN for you?

Whirlwind – Passionate – Innovative.

3. What do you like most about MRN and what do you find most challenging?

The thing I like most is definitely the people! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The focus on patient-centricity is also a winner for me; after all, this is the reason we do what we do.

In terms of the most challenging, that’s probably our ever-changing processes. We are always looking for things to work on and improve, the processes are constantly being updated. All for good reasons of course, it’s just hard to keep up with sometimes!

4. Why did you want to join MRN?

The main attraction for me was the focus on patient centricity and the emphasis on putting the patient first. The location of the MK office also helped as this is a short commute for me. Once I had attended the face to face interview, I knew I’d fit in well with the team.

5. What do you want to achieve while at MRN?

I’d like to continue developing my personal and project management skills whilst also helping to make life easier for patients across the world.

6. What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?

I graduated from University with First Class Honours and went on to achieve a Distinction in a Sports Physiology and Nutrition MRes. On a more personal note, I managed to crawl across the finish line of the hottest London Marathon on record in one piece, memories of which I choose to ignore!

7. If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

I’d love to go back to the dinosaur era and see the dinosaurs roaming, from afar of course!

8. People would be surprised if they knew…?

That I used to live in Malaysia, it was a long time ago now, and I don’t remember that much of it.

9. What is your personal philosophy?

Be the change you want to see in this world. Make improvements, not changes.

10. What is your favourite thing to do?

My main hobbies involve eating (mainly cake – I have the MRN ‘Cake Lady’ on speed dial and continue to receive weekly deliveries to this day), sleeping and exercising. I am a keen runner and have recently taken up triathlon. At the end of September, I will hopefully be taking on my first 70.3 triathlon (1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run).

11. What is your biggest passion or strength?

My biggest passions are animal welfare and health and fitness. I’m a huge animal lover and enjoy puppy cuddles and keeping active in my spare time.

12. What’s something you’d like to experience?

I’d love to swim with dolphins – but only in the wild. Somewhere where there are no sharks.
