Staff Spotlight On...Deborah
Meet Deborah Beale!

Deborah is our IT Project Manager and Business Analyst based in the UK office, she joined MRN one year ago in April 2018. In her current role, Deborah works with the business to source and provide innovative IT solutions or software upgrades, from concept to implementation.

1. Before working at MRN, what was the most unusual or interesting job you've ever had?

I've had a lot of different jobs, but the most interesting would probably be when I worked for RNIB. I organised an international conference about low vision and sight loss, it was held at the QE2 conference centre next to the Houses of Parliament. I worked on every aspect from the programme to finding the speakers, the marketing, organising all the social events, managing a team of volunteers and even fundraising so we could have the event! It was a hard job, but really rewarding.

2. What three words best describe MRN for you?

Dedicated - Caring - Quirky.

3. What do you like most about MRN and what do you find most challenging?

The thing I like the most is the people. In terms of the most challenging, it's probably trying to build and implement the processes to help us become more efficient and faster, moving from a smaller company to a bigger one.

4. Why did you want to join MRN?

My background is in a more corporate and healthcare-based environment, and one of the things that I like is ultimately what we do as a company is helping people, helping patients and helping people have a better standard of life - I like coming into work and knowing it's got a purpose.

5. What do you want to achieve while at MRN?

I would like to put some processes in place that will help us become more efficient at the most reasonable cost, and my first goal is to roll out our upcoming Salesforce project.

6. If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?

Amelia Earhart. I thought she had an amazing life and would be so interesting, she was a nurse in WW1, the first person to fly across the Atlantic, she achieved so much, and I think she's such an inspirational woman.

7. People would be surprised if they knew...?

I used to ride a motorbike, I did so for 10 years. I had a Yamaha 650 Drag Star.

8. Do you have a favourite quote or saying?

It's by Franklin D. Roosevelt - "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on."

9. What is your personal philosophy?

Try to do an act of kindness every day. Small acts of kindness make the world a better place.

10. Where is the best place you've travelled to and why?

Sri Lanka, it was just so different, beautiful and the warm friendly people.

11. What is your favourite book/film?

My favourite book is Wild Swans. I'm a big reader but that's the first book that made a real impact on me. My favourite film would have to be Top Gun, not because of Tom Cruise, but because of the planes and bikes (I did flying lessons for a while but ran out of money, so I went and bought a motorbike instead).

Thanks to Deborah for taking part in this month's staff spotlight, come back next month for more, or if you'd like to find out more about joining MRN and what current career options we have, you can view those here.
