Staff Spotlight On...Alex
Meet Alex Prentice!

Alex is our Finance Administrator based in our UK office, he joined MRN two years ago in April 2017. In his current role, Alex deals with some transactions but primarily deals with finance project work, looking at ways to improve our processes.

1. What three words best describe MRN for you?

Innovative - Ambitious - Driven.

2. What do you like most about MRN and what do you find most challenging?

The thing I like most is the atmosphere MRN creates in terms of personnel and the working environment that it instils in people. It's the first job I've ever had where it makes me want to be ambitious in my career, I'd never cared about job advancement before until I started working here.

The most challenging is probably the growth of the company, we can sometimes feel like we're playing catch up in terms of processes and the number of people we've got. Things change quickly and quite a lot, but this leads to exciting opportunities and the chance to explore new ideas.

3. What do you want to achieve while at MRN?

I want to make a positive change and I'd like to develop myself personally - quite significantly - and I'd like to play my part in the growth the company intends to make.

4. What is your biggest achievement to date - personal or professional?

My biggest achievement has been becoming a father to my son William, he's great.

5. If given a chance, who would you like to be for a day?

Either Cleopatra - being a female ruler in a completely male-dominated world - or Nelson Mandela, imagine making that much change in the world.

6. If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

I'd like to have been at the 1996 World Cup Final. I can't see England winning anything in my lifetime, let alone my team Watford.

7. What is your personal philosophy?

I've got a few; 'treat others as you wish to be treated', 'live life to the fullest' and 'don't dwell on the past'.

8. Where is the best place you've travelled to and why?

Egypt, because I was spending a month travelling around and also doing trips into Israel and Jordan which was amazing, especially given my interests in History and Theology.

9. What is your favourite thing to do?

Read. I'm currently reading a book called Prisoners of Geography which is about Geo Politics. I'd really recommend it.

10. What is your biggest passion or strength?

My biggest passion is tennis. I've played tennis since I could hold a racket at 2 or 3 and play to quite a highly competitive level. I still play to a competitive level but I also coach kids and disabled people.

11. What's something you'd like to experience?

I'd love to play a competitive game of tennis at Stade Roland-Garros which is the place the French Open is held in Paris. I'd like to play there because of the crowd, the heat and the speed of clay tennis.

12. What's the best advice you've ever had?

This is just a bad moment, it's not forever.

Thanks to Alex for taking part in this month's staff spotlight, come back next month for more, or if you'd like to find out more about joining MRN and what current career options we have you can view those here.
